Information about Poland – population – currency – short history
Poland is a country located in the very center of Europe. It is one of the largest European countries, with a total of 63 places in the world and 9 in Europe. The number of residents is estimated at 39 million. The state is extremely attractive due to its rich history, huge cultural heritage and picturesque landscapes.
The state is adjacent to seven countries: Russia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Germany. In the north, the border runs along the Baltic Sea, while in the south there are mountain chains – the Tatra Mountains, the Carpathians and the Sudety Mountains. The majority of the area is occupied by lowland areas. The two largest rivers – the Vistula and the Oder – pass into the Baltic. Poland also has numerous lakes in the Masurian Lake District, the largest of which is Śniardwy. The most valuable cities, ie Gdańsk, Szczecin, Toruń, Warsaw, Krakow and Wroclaw, have been located on the rivers. The current capital of Poland is Warsaw located in the very center of the country. It has almost 2 million inhabitants.
Poles are 34 in terms of the size of the nation around the world. It is a relatively ethnically and religiously homogeneous country. The largest national territories include Germans, Ukrainians, Russians and Roma. It is also a country with an established system of democratic governance. In accordance with the administrative division in force, Poland includes 16 provinces whose area largely coincides with the historical areas of the country.
The main national symbols of Poles include: white and red flag, anthem “Mazurek Dąbrowskiego” and emblem with a white eagle in a crown on a red background. The most important national holiday is the Independence Day celebrated on November 11 in order to commemorate the regaining of independence by Poland in 1918, after 123 years of partition (1795-1918). In 2004, Poland joined the European Union.
