What is worth seeing in Warsaw? #2
~ Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanów ~
This palace is one of the most precious monuments of Polish Baroque! It was built for King Jan III Sobieski at the end of the 17th century. Palace represents an unusual combination of a traditional Polish court with an Italian rural villa and a French chateau. Interiors of this palace is characterized by original design and decadent furniture, which represents three style eras. In the main building is located oldest, Baroque royal apartments. Whereas the south wing represents an 18th century style. If you want to see something more modern – in the northern wing, there are rooms, decorated by the Potocki family in the 19th century. The garden – ‘frame’ of the palace – combine a stylish Baroque garden, a romantic English-Chinese park, an English landscape park and a neo-Renaissance garden into a stylish and harmonious whole.
~ Palace of Culture and Science ~
The Palace of Culture and Science was built between 1952 and 1955. It is the highest building in Poland – 230.5 meters (42 floors). It has over 3,000 rooms including offices, institution headquarters and the Polish Academy of Sciences. The big attraction is a large terrace on the 30th floor of the Palace (at a height of 114 meters) where you can admire the gorgeous panorama of Warsaw. The palace was a ‘gift of the Soviet people to the Polish nation’, offered by Joseph Stalin. Interested thing is the fact that the Palace has also a post office, cinema, swimming pool, museums, libraries and theaters. The Congress Hall and Concert Hall are without a doubt among the most important concert halls in Poland.
